Smiths Ferry got its name from an actual ferry crossing on the Payette. Circa 2004, Kenneth, our Operations Guru, was busy pioneering the art of chicken and gravy lines on the Rio San Pedro. Fast forward, and the tradition of dodging the cold by escaping to warm, sunny lands still runs in the family. #neverwinter

A restaurant, filling station, and apartment building were comdemed after the slides and now all that is left is a pull out =( We got new rapids on all the sections of the Payette with notably

Back in 1933, in the thick of the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt rolled up his sleeves and got to work. He launched the "New Deal" to get folks back on their feet, funding all sorts of projects to tackle unemployment. One such project brought nearly eight million dollars to Idaho for urgent roadworks between 1932 and 1934. Among these, the bridge crossing over the North Fork above Smith’s Ferry stands tall and proud. Built in that same year, 1933, using those emergency relief funds, it's a sight to behold with its unique open-spandrel design, a first of its kind in Idaho during the 1920s. What's cool is, unlike other bridges of the same style, Rainbow Bridge hasn't been touched by time or change in design. Charles A. Kyle, the mastermind behind its design, made sure it was special - so special that it made it to the National Register of Historic Places. And guess what? When you hop on board for our Cabarton full-day rafting adventure, this architectural gem is part of the scenic ride. You'll get to admire the Rainbow Bridge from every angle - underneath, over the side, you name it!

He set up his homestead right along the Payette River, where the north and south fork tributaries meet. Why there, you ask?
